What about your characters makes you want to continue to play them, what brings you joy from them. Not what originally drew you to them, but what makes you keep them through all the purges, dramatic moments, nervous breakdowns, late assignments, finals week, thesis/research projects, etc.
I might end up retiring Jane by the end of the purge, since she's gone rather quiet lately (scheming to redecorate Mark's loft notwithstanding). That said, I'm kinda sorry she's not around more. She's fun. Also, Daria was my first fandom, and this is one of the last few ties I have to it.
Imp is... more or less the longest continuous RP character I've had, if you include the
discworld_rpg days - and I do, even though the character development's been rather different. I kept him through the first couple of purges because I wanted to do Plot With Rocks In, and now that that's done, I need to rebuild him a bit. (This includes getting him in the bar more often, I know. XD) He's a dear, though, and I think my brain would be a little emptier without him.
Angel, quite simply, would KILL me if I tried to get rid of him. He's got too much to stick around for - his family still needs him, and he's not done living yet (never mind that he's, you know, dead).
I still don't know what the hell he's doing in my head, more than a year later, but at this point I wouldn't have it any other way. Angel's fun. I can bounce him off pretty much anyone and have a damn good time of it - basically the only way to get on his bad side is to mess with his family. And frankly, he deserves every second of extra time he's getting. He's just that awesome.
Morwen has not been in very much yet, which is something I need to remedy; I'm still trying to get the hang of her voice. But she's interesting, and the only magic user I've ever had (granted, EFC magic's more complicated than most people's, so...). I think she'll be fun, once I get the hang of it.
